What will the water conditions be on race day? Water temperature is expected to be between 75 – 80 degrees.

What is the expected air temperature for race day? Low 65, high 85 degrees.

Will the race be held in the rain? Yes, if it is a light rain and no lightning. The Safety Director will monitor weather conditions. If extreme weather comes through, it is at the Safety Director’s discretion to cancel the race. We will utilize the Chattanooga Golf & Country Club’s lightning detector system.

What kind of start and finish will the races have?  In-water starts and finishes. Six orange buoys will mark the in-water finish gate. After the swimmer finishes, they will exit the river via the Market Street boat ramp.

Where does each race start and finish? 4.5 mile starts at Rivermont Park; 2.4 mile starts by the Chattanooga Golf & Country Club. Both races finish under the Market Street Bridge.

What is the entry deadline? May 21, 2019 at 7:00 p.m.

Can I register on race day? Sorry, no. Due to logistics, we cannot accept late entries. Entry deadline is May 21.

Do I have to be a USMS member to register for the Rat Race? Yes. If you are not an annual member, you can purchase a One-Event USMS registration for $25 during the registration process. If you’d like to become an annual USMS member, go to www.usms.org/reg/.

Can I get a refund if I can’t attend? No, we cannot issue refunds. However, you can transfer your entry to another person if you do it by May 24th. Once registration opens, we will provide information on how to transfer your entry.

When and where do I pick up my race packet? Friday, May 31; 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Fast Break Athletics, 300 Cherokee Blvd., Suite 105, Chattanooga, TN 37405, 423-265-0531. Fast Break has swim suits, goggles, goo and other fluid replacement supplements for sale. Free parking is available. We will also have late packet pick up at Outdoor Chattanooga during Saturday’s check-in.

When and Where is Athlete Check-in? Saturday, June 1. For 4.5 mile swimmers - 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 a.m., for 2.4 mile swimmers - 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. at Outdoor Chattanooga in Coolidge Park, 200 River Street, Chattanooga TN 37405, 423-643-6888. There is paid parking in the Chattanooga Theater Center parking lot next to Outdoor Chattanooga.

What time do the races start? 8:00 a.m. for the 4.5 mile; 8:30 am. for the 2.4 mile.

Is there a time limit? There is a 3 hour time limit for the 4.5 mile race and 2 ½  hours for the 2.4 mile race.

When and where can we warm-up before the race?  Warm-up will be available at the race start from 7:20 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. for the 4.5 mile and 7:50 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. for the 2.4 mile.

Will there be an awards ceremony?  Yes, 11:15 a.m. or 30 minutes after the last finisher.

Who will receive awards?  Top 3 overall male and female, and for 1st place in each age group. Age groups are in 10 year increments (18 – 29, 30 – 39, and so on). Age group is determined by your age as of December 31, 2019.

Are wet suits allowed? Wetsuits are allowed, if the water temperature is below 78 degrees. However, swimmers in wet suits will not be eligible for awards.

What do I do with my swim bag? Your bag can stay with you until the start of the race. It will be waiting for you at the finish.

Will medical services be on-site? An ambulance staffed with EMS personnel will be at Rivermont Park and Market Street Bridge.

Where can we park for the races? There is a paid lot next to Outdoor Chattanooga ($5 for the entire day). You can also utilize the parking garage across Frazier Avenue next to Regions Bank. For packet pick up on Friday, free parking is available in front of Fast Break.

Where can friends watch the race?  The last mile of each race can be viewed by walking along the road in front of the GPS boat dock and track and continuing on the walking path in Coolidge Park. There is no spectator parking at GPS. Spectators will be able to park at Coolidge Park. Spectators can also view the race finish from the Walnut Street pedestrian bridge.
